Malawi Women’s National Football Team striker Tabitha Chawinga continued her impressive form when she scored in Inter Milan Women’s 2-0 victory over Sampdoria in Italian Serie A Women Sunday.
This is her fourth goal for Inter Milan in four matches since she joined the club on loan from Chinese Women’s champions Wuhan Jiangda.
Tabitha, who also starred for the Scorchers during the 2022 Hollywoodbets Cosafa Cup in South Africa, scored the goal in the 63rd minute after Tatiana Bonetti opened the scoring for Milan in the 62nd minute of the match.
The former Scorchers captain was happy with her performance in Italy.
“I have settled well in the team. I am really happy that we got maximum points but it was a tough match,’’ she said.
The victory means Inter Milan are at the summit of the log table with 10 points from four matches, just one point above second-placed Roma.
During this year’s Cosafa Cup in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Tabitha scored a hat trick in the 6-0 win over Comoros Islands.
She was named player of the tournament in two matches against Botswana and Comoros.
However, she did not take part in the match against Tanzania, which the Scorchers lost 3-1 to exit the Cosafa Cup.
Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili was also excited with Tabitha’s exploits in Italy.
“This is very good and a source of encouragement to other Malawian players. The sky is the limit,’’ Fazili said.
Tabitha made history as the first female player from Malawi to play in Europe when she joined Krokom Dvasatts in Sweden in 20 before moving to Kvarnsvedens IK. She scored 38 goals for Krokom in her debut season despite joining the league while in progress.
