Tabitha Chawinga fires warning shots
Sweden-based Malawi Women’s National Football Team forward Tabitha Chawinga netted a brace on Sunday as Kvansvedens defeated Mallbacken 2-0 in a pre-season friendly.
Chawinga scored the double in the second-half as she linked up well with Ghanaian forward Elizabeth Addo.
In an interview from Sweden, Chawinga said she was eyeing next season’s golden boot award.
“I think I am in shape and ready to help my team. We are having good preparations ahead of the new season,” she said.
Chawinga also scored as Malawi lost 2-3 to Zambia in a friendly match at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe last month.
The former DD Sunshine striker became the first Malawian women’s footballer to play in Europe after joining Krokom/ Dvassarts in 2014.
Chawinga netted 38 goals in her debut season in Sweden.
After joining Kvarnsvedens, Chawinga then scored 43 goals in 26 matches to guide her side to the top-flight league.
Last season, Chawinga was among the nominees for the Best Forward and Most Valuable Player (MVP) having scored 15 goals in the Swedish league.
Apart from Chawinga, Malawi has Chisomo Kazisonga playing in Austria’s second Women’s Bundesliga.
