Malawi women’s national football team captain Tabitha Chawinga continued her impressive form when she scored the lone goal of the match as Jiangsu Sunning beat Shanghai 1-0 in the Chinese Women’s Super League over the weekend.
The victory means Sunning have gone top of the log table with six points from two games.
It was Tabitha’s second league goal but she has netted 21 goals in all competitions in the current season for Sunning.
Tabitha said she has set her sights on helping Sunning win the league title.
“We are pushing ourselves to win the league title. We are confident that we can do it. I also want to score more goals for my team this season,” she said.
The former DD Sunshine star said she was enjoying her game in China after moving from Sweden.
“I have settled down well and my teammates are helping me to shine in all games,”
Tabitha’s star in China continues to rise after helping Sunning to win the Chinese Women’s Cup and FA Cup this season.
She finished as the top goal-scorer in both competitions and was named Player-of-the- Year in the Asian country during her debut season.
The 22-year-old prolific striker, born in Rumphi District, also won the Golden Boot Award last season after scoring 17 goals, seven above Nigerian striker Asisat Oshoola, who now plays for Barcelona Ladies in Spain.
Tabitha spent three seasons in Sweden, where she won two golden boot awards before moving to China early last year.
