Tabitha Chawinga leaves for Sweden Wednesday
Malawi women’s national team forward, Tabitha Chawinga, is expected to fly out to Sweden Wednesday for a pre-season training with her team, Kvarnsvedens IK.
Chawinga was on a three-month off-season break after helping Kvarnsvedens IK to an automatic promotion to the top-flight league.
Having netted 43 last season, the former DD Sunshine player has set herself a target of 20 goals next season which kick-offs on March 3, 2016.
“I was training hard to keep myself in good shape. It will be a tough season in the top league, but I am ready to help my team finish on a good position ,” Chawinga said on Monday.
“I know the expectations are high from the fans as we will be playing in a tough and competitive league. It will not be easy, but I will try my best to score more goals.”
DD Sunshine director, David Dube, also said that Chawinga is in high mood ahead of next season.
“She is a professional footballer and she knows that the league is tough so she has prepared well,” Dube said.
The former DD Sunshine attacker won the Golden Boot Award in her debut season while playing for a third-tier side, Krokom/Dvassatts with 38 goals.
