Tabitha Chawinga nets 18th goal

Scorchers captain and Inter Milan Women’s striker Tabitha Chawinga continued with her impressive goal scoring run in the Italian Serie A Feminine when she netted in a 6-1 loss to Roma on Saturday.
The Malawian is the league’s leading goal scorer with 18 goals this season, six goals above her challenger Cristian Gireli of Juventus Ladies FC, who was in action as we went to press Sunday.
It was Inter Women’s third consecutive loss in all competitions this season.
Tabitha, though disappointed with the loss, was optimistic that the team will return to winning ways.
“Bad day in the office. We keep believing though,” the Malawian said.
The Serie A feminine leaders scored through Haavi, Gliona (brace each), Giacinti and Andressa.
The former DD Sunshine striker is set to write her own piece of history as she wants to become the first African woman footballer to win the Golden Boot award in the Italian Serie A Women.
Tabitha said she was not under pressure.
“My focus is to help the team do well. I will be happy if I win the golden boot award. I will keep on pushing,’’ she said.
She has a good record of winning the award in her debut season in both Sweden and China.
In her debut season in Sweden, she scored 35 goals in 38 matches despite joining the league while it was in progress.
In China, she netted 17 goals in the first season, beating African Footballer of the Year Asisat Oshoala by seven goals.
Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili said Tabitha is a role model on and off the pitch.
“She is a true leader. I am very happy with her performance,” Fazili said.
Tabitha is on loan at Inter Women from Chinese side Wuhan Jiangda.
