Tabitha Chawinga rescues Inter Milan Women

Scorchers captain Tabitha Chawinga scored in stoppage time as her side Inter Milan Women drew 2-2 with Juventus Ladies in Serie A Feminine on Saturday.

She netted the equaliser in the 92 minute to rescue a point for Inter Women.

Junge Pedersen opened the scoring for Juventus after two minutes before S Cantore doubled the lead in the 15th minute.

Elisa Polli scored for Inter Women in the 75th minute.

Tabitha took her goal tally to 19 as she is closing in on Golden Boot award in her debut season in Italy. She is five goals above her close challenger Cristian Gireli of Juventus with three matches to go.

If she wins the Golden Boot award, she will become the first African female footballer to achieve that feat.

Tabitha said she was happy with the win.

“It is always good to help the team. We wanted all the three points but a draw is a fair result. We keep on pushing,” Tabitha said.

The Malawian had a grand game as she was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) during the match.

“Author of the draw net in the final match, she is the player who touched the most balls in the opponent area (11) and attempted the most dribbling (five),’’ reads Serie A Feminine website.

Tabitha, who is on loan at Inter Women from Chinese side Wuhan Jiangda, has won three awards in Italy this season.

She was named the player of the month for September and also the best African female player based in Europe for the same month.

While in China, she won several cups and league titles.

In her debut season, she won the Golden Boot award with 17 goals. She moved to China having played for five seasons in Sweden.
