Tabitha Chawinga takes her tally to 3 in Italy

Inspires Inter Milan come back

Scorchers captain Tabitha Chawinga continues to hog the limelight in Italian Serie A Women’s as she scored a brace for Inter Milan Ladies in a 3-3 draw against Juventus Ladies Sunday.

Straight from her impressive showing at Cosafa Cup where she scored a hattrick against Comoros Islands in Scorchers’ 6-0 victory, with a bang impressing her new employers. Tabitha returned to Milan

Tabitha, who is on loan from Chinese side Wuhan Jiangda, has scored three goals for Inter Milan in two games.

Juventus had a two-goal cushion into the break with goals from Sofia Cantore (13 minutes) and Lineth Beerensteyn (35 minutes) but Tabitha inspired Inter Milan’s come back.

She scored the first goal in the 46th minute with her individual brilliance after she passed a forest of Juventus defenders before slotting the ball into the net.

Tabitha completed her brace in the 61st minute with another beautiful goal to level the scores.

Christiana Girrelli looked like she had won the match for Juventus when she scored in the 90th minute but there was late drama as Ghoutia Karchouni equalised.

In an interview Sunday, Tabitha said it was important to help her team earn a point.

“We worked so hard to get a point and we showed great character. We thank God for everything,” Tabitha said.

She scored on her Inter Milan debut in a 4- 1 victory over Parma last month.

Inter Milan Ladies have four points from two matches.

Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili hailed Tabitha for her hard working spirit.

“She has set her standards high. She is a true leader. I am happy with her performance for both the club and country,” Fazili said.

During this year’s Cosafa Cup in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Tabitha was named player of the tournament in two matches against Botswana and Comoros.

However, she did not take part in the game against Tanzania which the Scorchers lost 3-1 to exit the Cosafa Cup.
