Tabitha scores 10th goal
Scorchers captain Tabitha Chawinga became the first player to score double-figure goals in the Italian Serie A Women when she scored in a 4-0 win over Sampdoria yesterday.
Chawinga is the league’s leading goal scorer after netting her 10th goal of the campaign in her debut season.
She scored in the 49th minute after Elisa Polli gave Inter Women the lead in the 30th minute before Ghoutia Karchouni doubled the lead in the 44th minute.
After the break, Chawinga increased the lead but Chiara Robustellini sealed the victory in the 67th minute. In an interview from Italy yesterday, the Scorchers striker said she was excited.
“It is good to get maximum points. I am also happy that I scored,” Chawinga said.
Following the win, Inter Women have moved to position three on the log table with 25 points from 13 matches, eight points behind leaders Roma.
Scorchers Coach Lovemore Fazili was happy with Tabitha’s exploits. “She is a true leader. Tabitha is a hard worker.
I am not surprised with her performance in Italy,” Fazili said.
Tabitha won player of the month award for September.
She also won the African female player based in Europe for the same month.
