Malawi Women’s National Football Team’s strikers Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga were on target once each as Wuhan Jiangda qualified for the semifinals of the Chinese Women’s Cup following 6-1 win over Shanghai on Monday.
The victory comes two days after Tabitha netted a brace and Temwa once as Wuhan demolished Henan Jianye 4-0 in the quarterfinals.
On Monday Tabitha and Temwa scored a goal each while Hang Peng scored a brace. Dai Chenying and Zhu Hongguo scored a goal each.
In an interview from China yesterday, Tabitha, who is also the Scorchers Captain, said her target is to win the cup.
“We played well as a team and we deserved the victory. We want to win more trophies this season,” she said.
Wuhan are at the summit of the log table with 30 points from 10 matches this season.
The former DD Sunshine striker-now the team’s sponsor-is the leading goal scorer in the Chinese Women’s Super League with nine goals.
Sunshine Coach Andrew Chikhosi heaped praise on the two players.
“Tabitha and Temwa have dominated the Chinese Women’s Super League for three seasons which shows that they are top class players,” Chikhosi said.
Last season, Tabitha won the top goal scorer award after scoring nine goals as Wuhan won the title for the second consecutive time.
On the part of Temwa, she has won the Chinese Women’s Super League twice with the club.
