Taekwendo kick-start qualifiers
Taekwendo Association of Malawi (Tam) has kick started qualifiers for the Presidential Tournament finals.
The finals will be held on April 30 2017 at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC).
Ahead of the national finals, regional qualifiers will take place in centres across the country on March 18.
According to Taekwendo National Coach, Lovemore Masinga, this year’s Presidential tournament is called Women, Junior and Kids Presidential Taekwondo Championship.
Masinga said the tournament’s main target was to identify youthful athletes.
Masinga said the qualifiers are open to all age groups.
“We are encouraging women to take part in taekwondo training so as to build good athletes for 2020 Olympics Games in Tokyo, Japan,” he said.
He also appealed to all taekwondo athletes that were ranked verbally to seek proper accreditation.
Speaking at BYC during a taekwendo training session, taekwondo instructor, Andrew Soole, said he was impressed with the enthusiasm which new taekwondo athletes are showing.
Soole also hinted that in July, Tam will host newly-introduced Taekwondo Open Championship sponsored by Master Kim through GBS.
