Taekwondo hopes for Presidential funding

Taekwondo Association of Malawi (Tam) has developed a five year strategic plan that will help the association to access Presidential Initiative on Sports policy funding again.
Tam last accessed the initiative’s funding in 2017 when it staged a tournament.
However, the association did hold follow up activities in 2018 and 2019 as government withheld its subvention due to lack of a strategic plan and failure in submitting financial reports.
The association’s Acting General Secretary, Medson Ntila, said they had addressed concerns which Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) raised.
“There were some issues that affected our relationship with the Sports Council. Previously it was difficult for us to submit our budget and financial reports. We didn’t have a strategic plan and this made it difficult for Sports Council to allocate Presidential initiative funding,” he said.
Ntila said Tam officials have been trained on how to formulate a strategic plan after attending a course organised by Malawi Olympic Committee (Moc).
“The training was timely and it has really helped us to come up with goals and clear vision. We know what steps we need to take to develop the sport,” he said.
Sports Council Acting Executive Secretary, Henry Mereka, said they will shortly issue a statement regarding the issue.
