Tauka Arts debuts at Theatre in Mandala

Tauka Arts, led by Precious Denja and Isaac Bonongwe, return to the stage tomorrow afternoon to premiere their play Precedented Catastrophe at Theatre in Mandala at Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) in Blantyre.

The play was written by Denja who also stars in the production, and has a cast of four.

Denja, said Thursday they were ready to give people an interesting story of a minister of mining with several scandals surrounding him.

“There is more to this production; we do not want to pre-empt everything but, rather, people should come and watch it. The play touches on economic, corruption and social issues,” he said.

Denja said most politicians or leaders in Africa, when campaigning for positions, they look like people’s slaves but, once they are ushered into power, they turn into bosses and start abusing the very same people that put them into positions.

“Theatre can only grow when people embrace our performances and so we call upon them to come. This, being our first performance at Theatre in Mandala we want to leave a mark,” he said.

Apart from Denja, some of the actors starring in the production include Isaac Bonongwe and Lizzie Msiska.

Theatre in Mandala, curated by Tawonga Taddja Nkhonjera in partnership with JCC, was set up to give a platform to theatre practitioners to showcase their work and get critiqued.

Some of the groups that have performed at Theatre in Mandala stage include Young Travellers Theatre and Umunthu.
