Tay Grin set for Cockpit party
Multi-award winner Tay Grin will celebrate winning Nyasa Music Awards (NMC) tonight at Cockpit Lounge in Lilongwe.
The rapper, who will be joined by Theo Thomson and Sonye, grabbed three awards in the inaugural NMC which are Best Male Artist, Best Video and Best Live Act.
“It’s going to be a great night. This is a huge opportunity to celebrate with my fans. I would like to thank the fans who voted for me,” he said.
The rapper, whose video ‘Tola’ is making rounds on Trace Africa, said he has achieved a lot in music because of the support of his fans.
“I cherish the support from my fans that is why I thought of celebrating with them on Friday [tonight]. My fans give me the strength and I would like to assure them that the best is yet to come,” he said.
Next month, Tay Grin is expected to share the big stage with American rapper Rick Ross at this year’s Secret Solstice Festival 2017, Reykjavik in Iceland.
Tay Grin has won a number of awards which include Channel O’s Best Collabo or Duo 2009 with the video ‘My Type of Guy’ which features Buffalo Souljah, Gal Level and DJ Waxxy. In 2014, he was voted Most Influential Person by Hub Magazine UK and won a Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts (Beffta) award for Best International African Act. In 2016, he won Beffta Star Award in the music category, voted Malawian urban artist and best video (UMP) and WatsUp TV Africa Music Video Awards Best Traditional Video award with ‘Chipapapa’ which features Nigeria’s 2baba.
The Nyau King has collaborated with Sway (UK), Brick & Lace (Jamaica), Naeto C (Nigeria), Ice Prince (Nigeria), 2face (Nigeria), Wahu (Kenya), Nameless (Kenya), Double HP (South Africa), Lira (South Africa), Buffalo Souljah (Zimbabwe), Gal Level (Namibia), Scar (Botswana), Petersen (Zambia), Kmillian (Zambia), Vee (Botswana), Stagga (Botswana), Hamoba (Zambia), Slap Dee (Zambia), DA Les and Ishmael (South Africa) and Orezi (Nigeria).
Cockpit launched its year of fun early this year which has seen Giddes Chalamanda, Edgar ndi Davis and Lulu performing at the lounge.
