Tay Grin signs deal with Astro Mobile
Mobile company, Astro Mobile, has signed musician Tay Grin, real name Limbani Kalilani, as its brand ambassador in a deal worth K8 million.
Tay Grin and Astro Mobile’s agreement follows their shared values in African culture and the ‘Chipapapa’ star’s penchant for promoting African culture.
The signing ceremony took place in Lilongwe Wednesday.
Tay grin said he believes in Astro Mobile’s mission that gives a voice to millions of Africans by delivering top performance and affordable smart phones to its customers.
“I was inspired by the story of Astros Mobile founder and Chief Executive Officer, Munyaradzi Gwatidzo, an orphan who loved mobile phones and turned his passion for technology into a business empire” Tay Grin said.
He said it was great that big brands were recognising his influence and decided to engage him to promote their brand.
Astro Mobile General Manager, Michael Gova, justified the decision to work with Tay Grin, saying he had market appeal.
“Tay Grin’s passion for Malawian culture is unprecedented and can be heard in his musical and lyrical prowess as also seen in his appearance and actions,” Gova said.
He added: “This has given us a very interesting convergence of two afro-centric powerhouses and limited possibilities since Tay Grin has strong influence on the youth.”
The mobile company also revealed that Tay Grin was chosen as their brand ambassador due to huge social media following on Facebook, stressing that Limbani Kalilani and official Tay Grin page has 60,000 likes, 12, 700 twitter followers, 25, 800 followers Instagram and 1, 401 YouTube subscribers.
He has also made the grade through his latest music video ‘Tola’ which is said to have been viewed 128, 113 times, apart from connections across the continent and beyond— a development that has seen him collaborating with several international acts.
Tay Grin, who was recently in Uganda where he shot a music video ‘Bebe Cool’, is also implementing a number of corporate social responsibility initiatives including his role as UN Women HeForShe Ambassador.
