Musician Tay Grin, who was voted the Artist of the Year during the Urban Music Party (UMP) held recently in Blantyre, continues to shine with his song Kanda which is enjoying airplay on the Trace Africa channel on DStv.
The artist’s song which he collaborated with Sonye and Nigeria’s Orezi has been airing on the channel with the latest on Sunday.
Tay Grin said recently that he was impressed with the response Kanda has received. The music video was shot in South Africa.
Earlier this year after releasing the song Chipapapa, which he collaborated with another Nigerian star 2 Baba formerly 2Face, Tay Grin said this was the year for Malawi to shine on the music scene.
However, some quarters have said he was making headway in music because he has the resources.
The artist had to fly to South Africa to meet the Trace Africa team to sell his music.
Tay Grin also has another latest song Sugar Mummie which he featured Sonye and Zambia’s Roberto.
Trace Africa is a new channel which was introduced to give a platform to music from Southern Africa with Trace Urban being dominated by West Africa and South Africa.
MultiChoice Malawi has been calling upon artists in the country to submit their music videos through their offices for them to be played on the channel.
The Trace Africa team also visited the country in September taking advantage of the Lake of Stars Festival which was held at Chintheche Inn in Nkhata Bay with an aim of watching some of the country’s artists but also interact with them.
The team indicated that they had not received any music videos from Malawi and called upon them to send their music videos.
