Artist Tay Grin, real name Limbani Kalilani, continues to make strides as his song ‘Kanda’, which is enjoying airplay on Trace Africa, has made it to the top position in African Hit 10.
The song, which brings him face to face with Sonye and Nigeria’s Orezi, has received a positive response since being dropped.
Tay Grin said yesterday that he was happy that Kanda has hit the top.
“I am thankful for the support that people have given me. This [the glory] is for Malawi and Africa. This is the first time that a song from Malawi has claimed first position in the top 10. It first climbed to position two before getting to the first position.” Tay Grin said.
The artist recently held shows in Blantyre and Lilongwe where he was celebrating the awards he has won this year. These include Artist of the Year in the 2016 Urban Music Party.
His other song, Chipapapa, a collaboration with Nigerian star 2Baba, also climbed to number 2 on African music charts.
‘Kanda’ has an African sound that is original and not a copy of Western sound. I am not stopping here; I will keep on doing the best as an artist,” he said.
