Tea mission to Rwanda successful
The team which was sent from Malawi to tour the Rwanda Tea Industry Model expects the mission to hasten the development of the smallholder tea industry.
The team comprised representatives from the Tea Association of Malawi (Taml) and government officials and was organised as part of the 2020 Tea Revitalisation Programme.
Taml Chief Executive Officer, Clement Thindwa, said the aim of the tour was to understudy the Rwandan tea industry with a view of adopting and generating similar improvements and developments for the industry here in Malawi.
Thindwa said Rwanda was chosen on the premise of the achievements its tea industry has recorded over the past sixty five years.
According to Thindwa, among the areas of interest to the mission were policy and regulations, tea quality enhancement mechanisms, ownership and management of tea factories, pricing and gender balance, among others.
