Teams shun pre-match meetings

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has expressed disappointment over some teams’ tendency of not showing up for technical and preparatory pre-match meetings in the TNM Super League.

Teams such as Wizards FC, Red Lions, Dwangwa United, Mafco FC and Epac FC complained over the weekend that their opponents did not show up for such meetings in time.

Wizards Technical Director, Peter Mponda, took Sulom to task on Friday when some Silver Strikers supporters stopped his team from training at Silver Stadium ahead of their meeting the following day.

Mponda lamented that it was not right to be barred as visiting team are allowed to train at a ground where their match will take place.

Sulom General Secretary, Williams Banda, has since warned all teams, saying it is important for them to conduct such meetings.

Banda said it was sad that teams are shunning the meetings yet they complain when something goes wrong in course of a game.

“Yes, as Sulom we have received complaints from other teams about the pre-match meetings and we have started giving punishments. At technical pre-match meeting, we normally have team managers for both sides, match commissioner and captains of both sides, while the preparatory meeting involves executive committee of teams, First Aid officials, ground owners, Sulom and the Police,” Banda explained.

Teams that shun such meeting will be paying fines of up to K200, 000 each, Banda warned.
