Teddy re-emerges

TEDDY—I was still trying to find myself

Blantyre-based singer Teddy has resurfaced with a single titled ‘Mtima’ as he gears to release an album later this year.

Best-known for expressive love lyrics, the 24-year-old vocalist sings about a partner, cheated and left heartbroken in the track.

Co-produced by Melma and EQ, the song was dropped on March 15 before it was made available for streaming and downloading online.

Regarded as one of the most talented singer-songwriters of this generation, Teddy came to the music scene as “an artist to watch” at the age of 17 when he debuted with ‘Mpaka Kale’ in 2014.

The track came out after he contested in the 2014 Sunbird Search for a Star competition better known as E-Wallet.

A year later, Teddy dropped ‘Nkhawa Bii” and ‘Ndionetse’, in which he featured Sangie.

After making a mark with the three singles, the artist, born Teddy Maliza, went for further studies and never released any song until 2018.

“Despite being silent, I was still recording music with Sonyezo whenever I was on holiday, which made it possible for me to still nurture my talent,” he said.

Since 2018 under Sonyezo’s Houston Music, Teddy, who is also a voice actor, has released a number of singles and they include ‘Before’, ‘Worth It’, ‘Wow’ and ‘Mangochi’.

The artist left Houston Music in 2019 before joining Abstract Records.

Under the new stable, Teddy has released ‘Mmodzi’ and ‘Marry Me’, a song that features Nepman, before going solo to release his debut Extended Playlist Aye.

The EP was followed by another silence from the musician and not he is back with another project.

“I have given people enough reasons to think I am lazy, but frankly speaking, in as much as everyone else thought I was lazy I was still trying to find myself,” he said.

The artist has since promised people nothing but more songs as he readies to release an album later this year.

Teddy has also featured in ‘Mwana Opusa’ by Phyzix, ‘Back to Sender’ by Charisma and ‘Show You Off’ by Xavier.
