Three Southern Region Netball League sides received an extra motivation after Teras The Wonderful Drug Company donated money to outstanding performers during the just-ended Airtel Money regional championship.

The local drug manufacturing company donated K300,000 to Alliance Capital Stars for emerging Airtel Money regional champions following their 39-13 victory over Blantyre All-Stars at Blantyre Youth Centre on Sunday.

Blantyre All-Stars then received K200,000 from Teras for finishing as runners-up, while Gerald Tasaukadala Sisters, who defeated Chitakale 21-10 in a third-place battle, received K100,000.

Interestingly, Alliance Capital Stars got K1,250,000 for their feat with All- Stars pocketing K600,000 for finishing as runners-up, while third-place side, Gerald Tasaukadala Sisters, pocketed K350,000.

The fourth-place side, Chitakale, received K250,000.

The firm’s Managing Director, Shalice Amos, said they donated the money to the outstanding teams to motivate them.

“Of course, I was invited just as a guest of honour. However, having seen the performance of the teams, we felt duty-bound to donate something. This was Airtel Malawi’s show and we were simply complementing their sponsorship,” she said.

Amos said they hoped Alliance Capital Stars would impress at the national finals next month in Lilongwe.

She said urged the general public and sports personalities to associate themselves with ‘Teras The Wonderful Drug’ when seeking treatment for several ailments.

“As Teras The Wonderful Drug, we are helping save lives with our drug, and we associate ourselves with sports. We also assisted some netball teams early this year, and we also support a junior football league in Mangochi,” she said.

The league’s Chairperson, Judith Chalusa, thanked Teras for the support and asked the teams to use the money wisely.

“The only way to say thank you to Teras is by putting up a spirited performance,” she said.

Alliance Capital Stars captain, Phallace Mkama, hailed Teras for the support.

“It’s rare for a guest of honour to come with words of wisdom and incentives at the same time,” she said.

During the finals, Airtel Malawi official, Richard Nkombezi, said they were impressed with the standard of play.
