American Christian pop rock band The Afters on Tuesday night performed at Blantyre Baptist Church, sharing the stage with Faith Mussa and Paul Kachala in a free-of-charge concert that attracted an impressive audience.

The acts ministered the word of God through music and the concert at Blantyre Baptist, on a cold night, came barely two days after they entertained people at ABC Football Pitch in Lilongwe in another free-of-charge concert.

The first performance for The Afters, which was founded by Joshua Havens and Matt Fuqua, was on Saturday at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe.

Performing in the country courtesy of Live Love, The Afters were the last to perform at Blantyre Baptist, with Faith and Paul warming up for them.

Faith and Paul performed together and lifted people’s spirits in the church and brought in an ambience of praise and worship, with many singing along.

The two displayed their versatility in vocals and connected with the people throughout and this was also reinforced with their artistry in playing guitars.

The set for the two ended with Faith dishing out the hit ‘Mdidi’ that had people in the church singing along.

The Afters picked up from where Faith and Paul had left off and connected with the audience and, in every song they dropped, they taught people how to sing it.

There was, however, a special moment when the group performed the popular Chichewa song ‘Palibe Ofana Ndi Yesu’.

“We are excited to be here and it has been amazing. This country is beautiful and the people are very warm and it is, indeed, the Warm Heart of Africa,” Havens said.

Havens’ interaction with the audience was exceptional, showing his experience, and at one-time jumped into the audience and invited children to the stage to perform with him.

Paul described his performance with Faith on Tuesday as emotional.

“When I began my guitar journey in 2015, Faith Mussa played a big role. I remember listening to his debut album Desperate and transcribing the guitar parts in his songs. Faith has been my hero,” he said.

Faith said the three performances have been amazing and that he had a great experience.

“It was amazing and the professionalism in everything brought in all the energy,” the singer and guitarist, who is expected to perform in Spain next month, said.

He heaped praise on The Afters, which left the country Wednesday, saying they delivered in the three performances.

“These guys delivered same energy irrespective of anything. They were always on time and they never exceeded their set. Being church musicians, I also saw their heart for ministry,” the singer and guitarist said.
