The Flames in fine spirits
Malawi national football team arrived in Kampala, Uganda Friday morning ahead of Sunday’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nation’s group B qualifier against the Cranes.
The Flames were stuck at the Bole International Airport in Ethiopia before proceeding to Uganda.
According to Football Association of Malawi Gomegzani Zakazaka, the Flames flight to Kampala was delayed for more than two hours.
Zakazaka said initially the flight was scheduled for 23:35pm but was delayed for unknown reasons.
He said the plane carrying the team touched down at Entebbe International Airport at 6 am local time.
“Indeed we had a delay in Ethiopia but things were sorted out. We have arrived safely here in Uganda and we are lodging at Hotel Africana. The team will conduct its first training session here at around 3pm,” Zakazaka said Friday.
Flames are leading the group B with three points after beating South Sudan 1-0 at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Wednesday.
Inform South African based striker Gabadinho Mhango scored for flames.
Malawi coach Meck Mwase picked a 20 member squad that will face Uganda on Sunday.
On Thursday Burkina Faso were held to a goalless draw against Uganda.
