The Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (Acca) says the rapidly changing world needs top quality accountants who can add value by providing solutions to challenges facing businesses.

ACCA Southern Africa Head of Education and Development, Mike Gora, made the observation in Blantyre on Tuesday during a workshop to enlighten stakeholders on the changes that ACCA is making to its qualification to make its graduates more relevant.

Gora said the world is changing at a rapid pace and the role of professional accountants is more important than ever before.

He said, through its qualifications, ACCA is developing dynamic professional accountants who are strategic forward-thinkers who thrive in a world of constant technological change and growing globalisation.

Gora said ACCA is redesigning the professional level of its qualification to ensure that the qualification is as relevant as possible so that ACCA professionals continue to be the most valued and sought-after across the globe.

“ACCA’s latest innovations are to the top level of its qualification which will be renamed as strategic professional. The strategic professional examinations will replace the existing professional level examinations in September 2018 and a new ethics and professional skills module, which will be introduced in October 2017, will complete the changes.

“The redesign enhances the breadth and depth of the qualification with greater focus on employability and the practical application of core skills in the contemporary workplace,” Gora said.

Head of ACCA in Malawi, Alinane Khonje, said the changes are aimed at empowering the graduates to hit the ground running at the workplace and add immediate value to employers.
