These are Times for media awards

Times Group dominated the 2017 Fisd Challenge Cup media awards after getting two accolades out of the five categories at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe on Wednesday.

It has been a wonderful month for the media empire as, over the weekend, Mphatso Malidadi was also voted best print reporter for boxing and netball, Benjamin Maona made it in television category for women’s football whereas Yohane Chideya also claimed the best newspaper reporter accolade for Northern Region’s Simama Premier Division.

In the latest recognition, Mabvuto Kambuwe won the best print journalist of Fisd whereas Claude Simwaka claimed the best photo journalist of the competition.

Tione Andsen of Malawi News Agency was chosen the best online journalist whereas Lucy Kadzongwe of Rainbow Television and Frank Kandu of Malawi Broadcasting Corporation won best television and radio journalist awards, respectively.

All the winning journalists received prizes from sponsor Fisd Company Limited.

Fisd Executive Director, Kondwani Namchukwa, applauded the journalists for their outstanding work in the tournament.

“We had a wonderful tournament in 2017 because all stakeholders, including the media, did a good job. We are hoping that next year, the tournament will be more exciting and entertaining,” he said.

Football Association of Malawi Vice President, James Mwenda, hailed Fisd for being a true partner in football development.

Fisd started sponsoring the tournament in 2016 when Be Forward Wanderers were inaugural winners, before Kamuzu Barracks won the second edition in 2017 after beating Moyale 1-0 at Civo Stadium.
