Thlupego Chisiza, son to the late Du Chisiza Jr, and his Lions Theatre returns to the stage once again with the play What Lies Ahead at HS Winehouse in Blantyre tonight.

Thlupego premiered the play, which is a tribute to his father, who died on February 24 1999, at the same venue last month.

This is a political play that challenges the youth to wake up from their slumber and take action by playing a key role in developing the country.

The play received positive feedback on its premiere.

“We have received pressure from people that we should stage it again; hence, coming back. We are looking at taking it to other places, funds permitting. All we need is support from people,” Thlupego said.

He said they are ready to take the play places, so long as well-wishers offer them support in the form of means of transport.

The actor, who has starred in several plays and has recently been touring with an adaptation play titled Sizwe Bansi Is Dead with Misheck Mzumara, said What Lies Ahead is a play whose title is based on his grandfather’s book Africa What Lies Ahead.

“This is a special tribute to my father. It’s now 19 years without him. I miss him. Africa What Lies Ahead was written by my grandfather and, so, in my adaptation, I am tackling issues happening in the country, [including] the suffering of the people,” he said.

He said they have polished some of the scenes and have had massive rehearsals.

Some of the actors starring in the play are Thlupego, Tendai Scander, Robert Magasa and Allison Mpunga.
