By William Kumwembe:
FDH Financial Holdings Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Thomson Mpinganjira, has been nominated for the Africa business leader and entrepreneur awards.
Mpinganjira is among four continental business tycoons to battle it out for the All Africa Business Leaders Awards (Aabla).
The other three are Viacom International Media Networks Africa (South Africa) Executive Vice President and Managing Director Alex Okosi, Super Group South Africa CEO Peter Mountford and Growth Point Properties South Africa Group CEO, Norbert Sasse.
Mpinganjira is also competing with two others in the Entrepreneur of the Year category.
Aabla said in a statement, the winners would be crowned at an exclusive gala dinner in Johannesburg, South Africa, on November 29 2018.
Reacting, Mpinganjira said he was surprised and honoured to be recognised by Africa.
Mpinganjira said the nomination reminds him of how far he and his team have come in building FDH Financial Holdings.
“My greatest desire for my country, Malawi, and Africa in general has always been to see as many people as possible rise up, unlock their potential and achieving great things with their lives.
“I have always wanted to make a contribution in my own way and shall continue to do so. Being recognised at such a great level while doing what you are passionate about comes as a surprise and yet it is an honour for me, my family and my country, Malawi. I owe it to God,” Mpinganjira said.
He said entrepreneurship is not for the faint-hearted and achieving greatness requires persistence, perseverance and a dogged determination.
The annual Aabla is set to honour business excellence and leaders who have made a considerable impact on their industry and community.
Previous winners include Chairperson and CEO of the Dangote Group of companies, Aliko Dangote, Standard Bank Group CEO Sim Tshabalala, co-founder of the Ackerman Foundation Wendy Ackerman and Access Bank Pcl CEO, Herbert Wigwe.
