Forgotten musician Thomas Chibade on Sunday entertained patrons at New Bagdad Bar in Ndirande, Blantyre where he performed for close to two hours.
However, the musician who travelled all the way from Lilongwe did not perform with a band but used a CD with a DJ doing the magic on the decks.
Chibade popularly known as Chenkhumba described his use of the CD as a cost cutting measure.
The musician said he accepted to perform in Blantyre because he has “good memories” of the city.
“It is always great to interact with people who have supported my music all along,” Chibade said.
The veteran musician offered several songs at the well-patronised show which included ‘Mawu Anga’ and ‘Bwerera Pa Nyumba’.
One of the patrons, Billy Kapwepwe, said Chibade “still has it” and that he enjoyed the show.
“I enjoyed the show. Of course, next time, Chibade should think about performing with a live band. I also think he should consider having dancers. That way, a music performance has a tinge of professionalism,” Kapwepwe said.
Chibade has performed at the venue 13 times in the past seven years.
