Mzuzu-based golfer Thomas Malopa and Lusubilo Chakaniza emerged winners of this year’s Total Malawi invitational golf tournament held at Kasasa Golf Club in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota over the weekend.
It was a colourful tournament which attracted a pool of over 40 golfers.
Malopa posted a score of 38 points when he counted out Zone VI golfer Kondwani Mphula.
Mphula finished second when he counted out Jimmy Chansa on 38 points.
For being champion, Malopa received a return air ticket to Johannesburg plus a trophy, while Mphula got a brai stand.
In his victory speech, Malopa hailed Total Malawi for organising the golf tournament.
In the ladies category, Chakaniza reigned supreme when she won the main prize with 28 points as well as the longest drive and nearest to pin.
Ruth Mvula came second with 24 points.
Kasasa Golf Club vice captain Geoffrey Mkoko won the club’s closed contest which was open to Kasasa golfers only.
Mkoko finished the nine-hole golf course with 37 points to claim the logic gas stove.
Mathews Mwansa and Harvey Machinjiri won the nearest to pin and longest drive in that order.
Speaking during the prize presentation ceremony, Total Malawi managing director, Seggie Kistasamy, decribed the tournament as a success saying it was organised to interact with Illovo customers in Dwangwa.
