Three die in bus accident
Two women and an infant have died after a bus they were travelling in from Mzuzu to Lilongwe was involved in a road accident near Jenda Road Block in Mzimba on Wednesday night.
The bus a Scania Marcopolo registration Number MN 4129 belongs to Matours Bus Services.
According to Mzimba Police Spokesperson, Patrick Botha, the driver, Adams Chilowe, aged 35 years, failed to realign the bus back to its lane after overtaking a stationary truck which had broken down near Chibisa area.
“Due to loss of control, the bus swerved to the nearby drain thus causing a great impact on it which resulted into the three people dying on the spot,” Botha said.
He further disclosed that 11 passengers sustained serious injuries, while 10 sustained minor ones and were all taken to Mzimba District Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, investigations are underway and no arrest has been made.
The driver comes from Mwanyungwa Village in Traditional Authority Mwambo in Zomba District
