Unidentified thugs attacked Big Bullets midfielder Eneya Banda at the Limbe Market on Sunday and in the process stole his two mobile phones and left him with a deep cut on his hand.

Bullets technical director, Billy Tewesa, said the issue was reported at Limbe Police and Banda was treated as an outpatient at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.

“We don’t know whether it is a football related issue. However, it happened at around 5:30 pm on Sunday outside the Limbe Market when he wanted to connect to Bangwe on his way from Soche. Meanwhile, Police have promised to get back to us since investigations are underway,” he said.

Tewesa said they were waiting for medical recommendations before Banda resumes training.

“He is supposed to go for a check up on Wednesday [today]. We will follow what the doctors we advise us,” he said.

Tewesa said they hope the thugs would be identified and brought to justice.

“He is affected psychologically. We are following the issue with keen interest as his life was under risk,” he said.

Banda has been phenomenal at Bullets since he signed for the People’s Team from Karonga United. His transfer though steered controversy as another team from Simama Northern Region Football Association claims to be the rightful owner of the player.
