Southern Region Football League Premier Division sponsor Rab Processors has hiked its package to K19 million from K15 million for the next three seasons.

Rab has been bankrolling the division through its soft drink called Thumbs Up since 2019.

The company’s communications manager Andrew Lulker said the hike is aimed at further raising the standards of the game in the region.

“We have recently renewed our sponsorship of the league for another three-year term with an additional K3.5 million on top of the initial K15.5 million sponsorship contract. We are doing this as part of our corporate social responsibility.

“This is another way of giving back to our customers who have kept us going in business for many years. We remain committed to the development of football from the grassroots in Malawi. We believe our sponsorship will help to develop talent that is available in the country,” Lulker said.

He said it was exciting to see many players from the league performing well for the various TNM Super League teams they had signed for.

“This is one of the major highlights of the previous contract we had with Southern Region Football Association [SRFA]. We were very delighted to see a number of players from this league being selected to play for Super League teams. This aligns with our objective of football development in the country,” Lulker said.

SRFA chairperson Raphael Humba said the increase had come at the right time when the cost of running the game had gone up due to the rising cost of living.

“We are very thankful to Rab Processors for considering us with this increase in sponsorship. It is no secret that prices of goods and services have gone up everywhere and our game has not been spared. We are therefore grateful that, first and foremost, Rab has renewed its contract and secondly, hiked the sponsorship package,” Humba said.

The regional league’s current champions are Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve who successfully defended the title they have been dominating over the past four seasons with a 2-0 victory over Bangwe All Stars about two weeks ago.

However, it is Bangwe who earned promotion to the Super League as Bullets Reserve already have their seniors in the top flight.
