TNM Super League outfit Mighty Waka Waka Tigers has drafted former Malawi National Football Team talented midfielder Robert Ng’ambi into their coaching panel as assistant coach.

Ng’ambi was spotted on the bench during Kau Kau’s 1-0 victory over TN Stars at Kasungu Stadium on Saturday.

The previously South Africa-based star was also on duty when Tigers lost 3-0 to league leaders Blue Eagles at Nankhaka in Lilongwe the following day.

Tigers Technical Director Robin Alufandika said the former Black Leopards and Platinum Stars FC playmaker will be helping Tigers as an all-rounder coach for the rest of the season.

Alufandika said he believes that Ng’ambi’s experience will help them strengthen their technical panel.

“Ng’ambi has played for big clubs in South Africa and was an influential player during his playing time with the Flames. We, therefore, thought it right and proper to approach him so that he helps with drilling the boys,” he said.

Alufandika said Ng’ambi, a Caf C coaching license holder, has been with the club for a month now.

“We have benefitted a lot from him. He is working hand-in-hand with our head coach Trevor Kajawa. It is evident that his presence has changed our style of play for the better. We remain hopeful that he will be with us for long,” he said.

Ng’ambi said he decided to join Tigers as he was looking to sharpen his coaching skills ahead of the Caf B coaching course slated for July.

“I have been with Tigers since last season. I met Tigers officials on a possible move to help them in coaching their boys and we reached an agreement that I should take up the assistant coach’s job.

“But there isn’t much to say. I am just helping the team with what I have learnt throughout my playing career. All I want to gain is experience in coaching in the elite league. You may wish to know that I am also a coach at the Walter Nyamilandu Academy,” he said.

Tigers lie fourth in the Super League with 15 points from nine matches.
