Tigers FC have asked authorities to permit small group training sessions in light of proposals to commence the 2020 season next month.
In its roadmap for commencement of the new season, Football Association of Malawi (Fam) suggested that the new season kicks off in August.
Technical Director, Robin Alufandika, said teams needed to start regrouping now if the season is to kick off next month.
“This is the right time for clubs to start regrouping if indeed the season is to kick off next month. Football authorities should consider allowing us to start regrouping in small groups so that players can start gaining fitness,” Alufandika said.
Fam Covid-19 Desk Chairperson, Gomezgani Zakazaka, said he was optimistic that the season would roll into action by August end.
“We are just waiting for a go-ahead from the government before allowing teams to resume preparations. Chances are that we might start by the end of August. We are hopeful that we will be given the go-ahead. We just have to be patient,” Zakazaka said.
Kick off of the season was halted on March 20 as the government announced a state of disaster to control the spread of the disease.
