Tigresses humble Thunder

Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League leaders, Complex Tigresses, mercilessly crashed Thunder Queens 60-36 at Blantyre Youth Centre on Saturday.

Unlike in previous matches, when Tigresses had to sweat to win the fixture, this time around Thunder were easily subdued and they seem not to have clue on what was hitting them.

Tigresses had the audacity to change players and the most notable was when Lauren Ngwira moved from defence to attack as in-form Ellen Chibokho paved way.

Thunder started with its strongest squad with Joanna Kachilika, Martha Dambo and Esther Kayira in defence while Thandie Galeta and Pilirani Msukwa supplied balls upfront where Sherratie Kaiche and Chiku Banda- Kaminjolo partnered. Later the Kaminjolo was replaced by Emily Jere.

Similarly, Tigresses also started with a familiar squad with Sindie Simtowe, Chibokho, Rose Saili and Licy Fiwa partnering in attack and they were covered by Cathy Yikwanga, Ngwira and Grace Mhango.

Tigresses led the first quarter 17-9 and at half time they were leading 29-18. In the third quarter, Tigresses led 42-29.

Tigresses assistant coach Charles Mhango said praised the players for following instructions.

“It’s not easy to win these games but the players were fantastic and they executed our game plan intelligently,” he said.

Thunder officials refused to talk after the defeat.

In another match, Kukoma Diamonds were given free points plus 150 baskets after Antonio failed to show up for the match. Diamonds lie second on the table with 21 points.
