Tigzobere Kumwenda in fresh injury panic
TNM Super League former champions, Silver Strikers are expected to be without injury-prone forward Tizgobere Kumwenda during the opening games of the 2016 season after he suffered a fresh injury.
Kumwenda, who had returned to full training, aggravated the injury during a 1-0 win over Nyasa Big Bullets during a friendly match at Silver Stadium recently.
However, Kumwenda downplayed the injury, which might sideline him from games during the opening week of the new season scheduled to kick-off on April 16.
“It’s not a serious injury. I did not take part in last weekend’s game as a precaution, but I will be ready to play soon,” Kumwenda insisted.
The former Blantyre United and Bullets striker’s latest injury might be a big blow to coach Young Chimodzi, who is short of experienced legs upfront following the exit of strikers Green Harawa and Peter Wadabwa.
The Bankers will be relying on Mathews Sibale, Clement Trota and Thuso Paipi.
Meanwhile, Silver have received a boost as exciting midfielder Blessings Tembo has resumed training after lengthy spells on the sidelines due to injury.
Since the Super League was introduced, Silver have won it eight times, but for the first time in a decade, they finished last season empty-handed.
