Tikonzekere Arts competition finals will be held at Malawi University of Science and Technology in Thyolo District on Sunday.
Tikonzekere Arts Publicist, Paul Sezzie, confirmed the development Thursday.
Sezzie ruled out another postponement this time around. Some finalists however, have bemoaned the delays in holding the finals and were hoping that the event will take place this time around.
The finals were first postponed last month when they were supposed to take place during the 2019 Blantyre Arts Festival.
The organisers then announced that the event would be held in Liwonde on October 20 and 21 2019 before they were postponed again.
“The event is on without fail this time around. We will have Piksy as the headline artist, who has replaced Patience Namadingo, who will not be available. The host is Madalitso Nyambo,” Sezzie said.
The contest lead coordinator, Bob Alexander, better known as Barefoot Bob in the musical circles, also said the event was on.The semi-finals for the event were held at Jacaranda Cultural Centre in Blantyre where players competed in different art disciplines with three in each category making it to the finals.
In the songwriting category, the artists that made it to the finals are Funghai Mutsinze with his song ‘Kupewa’, Goodwell Thunga (‘Tikonzekere’) and Tigris (‘Zothekera’).
The other finalists in the poetry category are Hannah Mngoli, Agatha Malunda and Magdalena Nakhonyo whereas in the storytelling category the finalists are Harold Kapindu, Murendhle Nkhoma and Peter Foley.
The short video category has Halspeck Sauti with Behind a Tree, Chisomo Livason (Kusintha kwa Kaganizidwe Kungatipulumutse and Fumbani Phiri with The Dyke in Malawi.
The last category is that of drawing which has three finalists namely Innocent Fabiano, Peter Nyakhuwa and Heath Kathewera.
The winners in each category are expected to share K300,000 distributed as follows: K150,000 for first position with K100,000 and K50,000 for second and third position respectively.
