Times Group celebrates Misa Awards triumph

The Times Group Friday celebrated its triumph of the Print Media, Television Station, Radio Station of the year and 26 other individual awards of the Media Institute of Southern Africa (Misa) Malawi Chapter.
Speaking during the function at its headquarters in Blantyre, the company’s Managing Director Leonard Chikadya said The Times Group is a true leader of the media industry in the country.
“I am incredibly thankful for your individual dedication and commitment. We have succeeded on account of many interest groups both internal and external,” he said.
Chikadya promised further innovations from the media giant, tapping from its vast array of skilled human resource.
“The Times Group will continue to disrupt the media industry in Malawi for years to come through continuous innovations and creativity. We have the highest concentration of human resource skills that is multi-skilled more than any other media house in Malawi,” he said.
Times Television Station Manger Wonder Msiska said the triple win was a team effort and pledged continuation of this team work into the future.
“We made history and this was no mean achievement. We are grateful for a hardworking, well-coordinated team that we have at The Times Group.
“We pledge more entertainment, more breaking and hard hitting stories to the nation. Simply put, leading is our way of life and Malawians should not expect anything less,” he said.
During the event, apart from recognising individual journalists for their media awards, the company also bid farewell to 12 retirees some of whom have worked for the company for close to 25 years.
One of the retirees, Production Controller Justin Malunga described his 26 years with the company a bitter-sweet filled experience.
“Working for The Times Group has been a long and winding journey. Spending nights in the factory due to machine breakdowns to get the next paper on the street has been some experience,” he said.
The Times Group was established in 1895 and now operates three national newspapers, a television and radio stations and an online platform.
