Times sweeps Misa Awards

Having wandered off in the wilderness for few years, Times Group, on Saturday night finally reclaimed its seat at the top of the table as the best media house in the land by grabbing both Print Media House of The Year and Electronic Media House of the Year (Television) accolades at the Media Institute of Southern Africa (Misa) Gala Dinner held at Chintheche in Nkhata Bay District.

It was a sweet moment for the Times staff from Scott Road, home to Times Television, Times Radio, Times 360 Online and three newspaper publications; The Daily Times, Malawi News and The Sunday Times whose hard work and efforts in life”. We are the oldest media house not by accident but design of the founders of our company. We celebrate the first daily paper in this country, The Daily Times that is now 127years old since 1895. We celebrate the first Saturday paper in this country, Malawi News that is 63 years old since 1959. We celebrate the first Sunday paper in this country, The Sunday Times that is 18 years old since 2004. We celebrate the first privately owned national television station that will be nine years by end of this year since 2013.

He said the media house will always strive for the best.

“This is the mark of leadership that is designed to give voice to the voiceless. When we say leading is our way of life we can support it by our actions,” he said.

Chikadya further lauded the owners of the company for their support

“I am indebted to the Board and Shareholders of Times for giving Management and Staff the opportunity to operate without interference and exercise their highest level of professionalism in the delivery of their services. We thank MISA for this endorsement. Last but not least, we are most grateful to our clients who pay our bills and are major beneficiaries of our success. At Times Group we strongly believe in our seal of excellence. We have a very youthful team that will continue to drive this success for many years,” Chikadya said.

According to the judges, Times Group has been named the best print media house of the year because of, among others, its analytic way of writing stories, investigation pieces and credibility and professionalism of its reporters.

The judges also named Times Group the best in Television for its programming, professional reporting and creative production of content.

Times Group acting Editor In Chief-Print Pilirani Kachinziri said the awards are fruits of hard work and team work spirit.

“It was not easy but we worked hard to perform. We also believe in team work, a spirit which has also united us all,” Kachinziri said.
