Times TV is the best
Born 11 December in 2011, Times Television was for the third year running voted the best television station in the land.
Media Institute for Southern Africa, Malawi Chapter declared Times the best Television for 2017/2018 during a gala night in Blantyre to celebrate World Press Freedom Day on Saturday evening.
Twelve Times Group journalists also won various individual awards in all sorts of categories including sports, investigative journalism, agriculture water and sanitation and education.
Nation Publication Limited was crowned Misa Print Media House of the Year. Zodiak Broadcasting Corporation is Misa’s best radio station while Maziko Community Radio was chosen the best community radio station of the year.
Misa Chairperson Theresa Ndanga decried the attack on the freedom of expression and delayed implementation of the access of information Act.
Minister of Information, Nicholas Dausi who was the guest of honour at the gala, said the government welcomes critical views and will make sure that the media work unhindered in the country.
American Ambassador Virginia Palmer said media freedom is important to the country’s governance.
“Free press is important in any country including Malawi. We recognize the role a free press plays in enhancing transparency and accountability in any society,” she said.
Before the gala, journalists marched from Kamuzu Upper Stadium to Malawi Sun Hotel where they conducted a debate.
