Times TV makes La Liga breakthrough

Masters of innovation in the media industry, Times Group, have made yet another breakthrough by securing rights to beam Spain’s La Liga games on Times Television, (TTV).

The award-winning television station beamed the first match on Wednesday night between Real Madrid and Real Valladolid which ended 1-0 in favour of the former.

More games are expected to be beamed over the weekend.

The move cements Times Group’s place at the top as Malawi’s biggest media house which also has three newspapers and a radio station besides robust online platforms.

Times Commercial Manager, Lusayo Msukwa, said they expect increased viewership of their television as La Liga is one of the most followed leagues in Malawi and beyond.

“We are pleased to tell all soccer loving Malawians that they should not go anywhere if they want to watch La Liga matches. For a long time, football has always been the most valuable form of entertainment for Malawians and we are here to bring the action right into their homes,” Msukwa said.

He said TTV has worked hard over the years to cover all areas of interest and deliver educative, entertaining and informative programming to its viewers.

“Ever since our inception as a media house, we have worked day and night to become the number one television channel of choice for Malawians of all walks of life. Sport has always been one of TTV’s principal programming.

“Malawians and viewers beyond love TTV because of its exciting content and excellent services. The coming in of La Liga will only cement our reputation as a leader in the business,” Msukwa said.

He said since most Malawians love football, Times considers the beaming of La Liga games as an opportunity for their partners and other stakeholders to partner them in bringing high profile La Liga matches to all households.

La Liga has some of the best teams in the world that have won the Uefa Champions League, the Europa League and the Fifa Club World Cup.

Four of La Liga’s top clubs are Real Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid.
