Tiwonge Hango cries for love in new single

Tiwonge Hango’s declaration that “this is my year” might be timely as he announces his comeback. However, his single is not about his comeback but it is a voice of hope to those frustrated with love.

The single ‘Don’t Touch Me’ is inspired by real life experience. The song resonates with a number of people who have been frustrated with love. As an artist, he observes what is happening around him. He tries to make meaning out of seemingly meaningless conversations for instance.

“One day I was travelling in a coach and behind my seat sat two young women and a man. The three were talking about relationships and none had a good thing to say about their previous relationships,” says Hango who is famous for the song ‘Mama Africa’ from Chinyengo album.

He continues: “The three expressed their wish to settle down. They wondered that despite doing everything right, their relationships did not lead to marriage. One of them actually suspected that it was a curse.”

The title of the song is carefully selected to draw interest from listeners.

“I am just emphasising that we should not allow the devil to be close to us, we should not allow obstacles to be in our way and we should believe that nothing is impossible if we seek God’s guidance,” Hango said.

He sings: Kukhumudwa ndakhumudwako amzanga mu chikondi/ Ndingakonde bwanji ine, siziyenda/ Ma pizza ndagulako, ma ice-cream ndagulako/ Kuti mwina andikonde/Pena ndimadzifunsa ndinalakwa chani/ Amzanga kukwatiwa ine siziyenda/ Tandiwuzeni mama mwina ndi tsoka lobadwa nalo/ Mwina ananditembelela ine ndisanabadwe

Hango says what makes a relationship work is not material things or what you do to for your loved one. Usually, making the right choice guided by God would make the relationship successful.

Hango is one of the artists working with which has partnered TNN Malawi to promote local music through downloads.

“I believe we now have the platform we can use to reach our audience. We make music for the people and now that technology has made it easier for our fans, we must utilise the platforms that are there,” he said.

Owner of Percy Manyozo said a number of artists are now showing interest in their initiative.

“Artists see the benefit of working with us. What we want is that artists should benefit from their talent and listeners should have access to local music which they can download.

“The reaction from the artists is positive. Most of them are signing contracts with us on daily basis knowing that it is a step ahead in the Malawian music industry,” he said.

He also added that artists are benefitting more from the downloads unlike in the past when most artists were just doing it for fame.

Hango, who has two albums Chinyengo and Ndife Amodzi’ is yet to name his next album whose release date will be announced soon.
