TNM Super League side TN Stars have opened talks with coach Tione Mhone over the possibility of leading the team ahead of the new season.
Stars have been without head coach after Joseph Malizani dumped the club to join newly promoted side Sable Farming.
The club’s acting general secretary Bester Ngwale confirmed that discussions were at an advanced stage.
“Nothing concrete at the moment. Management is still in discussion with him. Once everything has been completed we will communicate to the general public,” Ngwale said.
The Kasungu-based side regrouped on Saturday in preparation for the new season under Honest Nkhwazi.
Former assistant coach Monkey Chirwa also left the club for Chipiku League Premier Division side Wimbe United.
Mhone also confirmed that he was in talks with Stars.
“I do not want to talk much on the matter. I will be able to comment on the matter next week,” Mhone said.
Stars finished on position seven in the TNM Super League last season. They also took part in the Airtel Top 8 Cup but lost 5-1 to Silver Strikers in a two-legged affair.
Mhone is one of the upcoming coaches in domestic football.
He holds Caf A coaching licence which is above the minimum requirement for coaches in the top flight league.
The former Zomba United coach failed to save Mafco from relegation when he took over the team from Mike Kumanga in 2018.
Meanwhile, newly promoted side Rumphi United have appointed Christopher Nyambose as head coach.
Nyambose was in-charge of relegated Chitipa United last season.
United General Secretary Jones Mockton said Nyambose had joined the club on a two-year deal.
“His contract will be reviewed after the first season,” he said.
United earned promotion to the top flight league after winning Simso League.
They took domestic football by storm after reaching the semifinals of the FDH Bank Cup in which they lost 3-2 on post-match penalties to Ekwendeni Hammers.
