TN Stars have hinted that they might seek clarification from Football Association of Malawi (Fam) over coach Meke Mwase’s engagements with Malawi under-23 national football team, so as to ensure that the Kasungu District-based side’s performance is not compromised next season.
Stars Director, Wisdom Chimgwede, Tuesday said they might seek clarity from the association on what becomes of his equally demanding task of preparing the club for the 2019 TNM Super League season, which kicks off in April.
“The club hasn’t written Fam on that issue yet, but we have concerns about the negative impact of long absences of the technical director from the team, which may be brought to the attention of Fam, soon.
“This will definitely be communicated to Fam very soon and we trust that they will understand our position as the soccer mother body in the country. But it is the stuff that we trust we will solve amicably with Fam,” Chimgwede said.
Fam officials were not available for a comment but Mwase said he was not aware that Stars have issues with his role in the national team.
“All I know is that Fam wrote my club’s management asking for my release and they obliged,” he said.
Mwase impressed last season while in charge of the under-20 team in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for the age group, before he was made under-23 mentor.
He also helped Stars survive relegation in TNM Super League debut season.
Mwase will be busy soon as the under-23 team face eSwatini next month in the Afcon qualifiers for their age group with the overall winners to play in the next round. The under-23 team is in camp.
