TNM Limited hopes to continue sponsoring football for the next 10 years, the company’s top official said on Saturday during a prize presentation ceremony for the 2015/16 Super League season.
TNM Chief Strategy Officer, Wilson Kyumba, hinted on the continued romance with football at Bingu International Conference Centre, Lilongwe, where the company and Super League of Malawi awarded the season’s outstanding performers such as Super League champions, Kamuzu Barracks.
“We invested over K100 million into the league in just-ended year. However, you may note that from 2013 to 2015, TNM grew its expenditure towards the league by 33 percent from K105 million to K140 million in 2015,” speaking on behalf of the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Douglas Stevenson, Kyumba said
“We raised stake s to K15 million for the champions. This we did in line with our commitment to uplift the welfare of players who are our heroes in the game of football. Apart from direct contribution to players’ welfare, TNM has been raising funds for clubs and fans through the network’s SMS platform.”
TNM cited Malawi National Football Team’s qualification to the Africa Cup of Nations finals in 2010 as among its contributions to domestic football.
“Our continued sponsorship reaffirms our commitment to promoting youth development through football as a sports discipline. TNM has confidence in the government’s Youth Policy, which sets the nation’s vision in terms of providing direction for young Malawians to participate meaningfully in national development agenda,” Kyumba added.
