Local integrated ICT and mobile phone network services provider, Telekom Networks Malawi (TNM) Plc has appointed Michiel Buitelaar as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Buitelaar takes over from Eric Valentine who has served for over 18 months in an acting capacity.

Buitelaar, who is from the Netherlands, has an MSc in Applied Mathematics and studied Business Administration.

In a statement released Monday, TNM Board Chairperson, George Partridge, rates Buitelaar’s appointment as fitting.

“The new CEO holds vast experience from working in Belgium, The Czech Republic, Spain, France, Indonesia and (recently) Nigeria.

“He has spent most of his working life in senior positions in telecom companies going through significant changes such as at KPN, Ben (now T-Mobile, an affiliate of Deutsche Telekom), Orange, Smile and AT&T,” reads part of the statement.

The statement further says that Buitelaar has experience as an executive board member at various global media companies.

Buitelaar was responsible for digital business – online media and e-commerce – and group-wide digital transformation of television, magazines and newspapers.

The statement further says Buitelaar is coming from CX, a European Artificial Intelligence software provider where he was the CEO and maintains board memberships in Novec (telecoms) and Infinitas (education).
