TNM seals deal with NYCOM

By Wezzie Gausi:

Malawi Stock Exchange-listed mobile phone service provider, Telekom Networks Malawi (TNM), on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) which will boost economic development among youths in the country.

The partnership is part of the Mudzi Wathu initiative that TNM launched recently.

TNM Chief Executive Officer Arnold M’bwana said the company launched Mudziwathu Initiative as a partnership with the community.

M’bwana said their partnership with NYCOM is in driving job creation, mobile penetration and financial inclusion.

“The MoU is an opportunity to deal directly with the largest population of the country, the youth. Our partnership has been aligned with the Malawi 2063,” M’bwana said.

M’bwana added that the agreement would facilitate formation of youth-owned and youth managed enterprises such as TNM Mpamba branches.

NYCOM Chief Executive Officer Dingiswayo Jere described the partnership with TNM as a great opportunity for youths of Malawi.

“The partnership will create a thousand jobs for the youth. Government alone cannot manage to employ all the youths in the country; so, there is a need for other players to help create more jobs,” Jere said.

Meanwhile, NYCOM has urged the youth of Malawi to come out of their comfort zones and think beyond material satisfaction.

Mudzi Wathu is a community-based partnership approach leveraging on mobile technology as a catalyst for economic development.
