TNM Super League awards set for January 27

SMILED ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK—Bullets

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has disclosed that the 2022 TNM Super League awards ceremony will be held in Blantyre on January 27 at a venue to be announced later.

Sulom General Secretary Williams Banda disclosed this Monday, saying the association is working jointly with the league’s sponsors, TNM, to make the event colourful.

“Preparations for the event are at an advanced stage. Our sponsors are also busy planning to hold an auspicious event,” he said.

During the awards, outstanding players, including player of the season, will be decorated.

Last season, Nyasa Big Bullets midfielder Chimwemwe Idana was voted as the player of the season.

The development comes after TNM disbursed prize money to outstanding teams including champions Nyasa Big Bullets following a request from clubs through Sulom.

Teams asked Sulom to ask TNM to provide the prize money earlier to enable the clubs to use it in preparation for the forthcoming season.

Sulom President Tiya Somba Banda confirmed the arrangement.

“Teams appealed to us, considering that some of their players’ contracts were ending on 31 December 2022, and it was imperative to pay their dues then.

“That is why we facilitated the payments to ensure that the players’ clubs contractual obligations shouldn’t spill over and are paid within the contracts. It was only practical since the winners were already known, unlike the individual awards where people will be awarded on the prize presentation day,” he said.

Bullets received K40 million for winning the championship while runners-up Blue Eagles got K15 million.

Third-placed Kamuzu Barracks received K7.5 million.

Bullets Chief Administration Officer Albert Chigoga, in an interview with a local radio station, confirmed receiving their prize from TNM.

“We thank Sulom for facilitating the process,” he said.
