Top 8 Cup to go national
Powertex Limited has plans to take the regional Powerstart Tayale Top 8 Cup to the national level in their quest to develop football in the country.
The company’s managing director Itayi Chidzero made the remarks during the launch of the Southern Region Football Association’s (SRFA) Premier Division competition at Mulanje Park Stadium on Saturday.
Chidzero said they intend to partner other regional associations such as Central Region Football Association and Northern Region Football Association to identify and nurture talent for the senior side.
“We would like to have the competition in all the regions. If funds prove to be a problem, we might consider finding a partner,” he said.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Technical Director John Kaputa hailed Powerstart for sponsoring the cup.
“We, as a country, need to find ways of developing the game and if Powertext through Powerstart top 8 would like to go national then this is a welcome idea because it will give us [Fam] the platform to unearth talent,” he said.
SRFA Chairperson Raphael Humba supported Powertex’s idea to turn the competition national.
“We are open to help our sponsor take Powerstart Top 8 to determine real champions at regional level,” he said.
