The big three in the Rainbow Paints Blantyre and Districts Netball League (BDNL) have been exempted from league games after contributing the bulk of players to the national netball team currently camping in Blantyre.

The three teams are Kukoma Diamonds, First Choice Tigresses and Tropical Queens.

The Queens are preparing for the African Netball Championship scheduled for Cape Town in South Africa from October 18 to 22.

Diamonds have contributed Caroline Mtukule-Ngwira, Alinafe Kamwala, Jessica Mazengera- Sanudi and Shira Kapasula-Dimba with Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda withdrawing on personal grounds.

Tigresses have Grace Mwafulirwa-Mhango, Beatrice Mpinganjira, Sindie Simtowe- Msowoya and Beauty Basiyawo in the Queens camp while Martha Dambo, Joanna Kachilika and Thandie Galeta are from Tropical Queens.

BDNL Chairperson, Junier Kazembe, said it was important to exempt the three teams from league action to level the playing field.

“The title fight is really tight and we do not want the teams to play without their best players. We want to be fair to them,” Kazembe said.

She said the arrangement would also help the Queens to concentrate on their preparations.

“It would not be good for the team to release some of its players for league games. The players need to concentrate on national duties,” Kazembe said.

But the chairperson said games involving other teams would continue.

“We have teams such as Prison Sisters, Serenity Stars, Shizaella Queens and Chilomoni Sisters in action as they fight to finish among top five teams,” she said.
