Total extends relief seed to flood victims
Total Malawi Limited over the weekend donated seeds worth K3 million to people that were affected by floods in Nkhata Bay Central constituency.
The seeds will benefit 500 families who are expected to engage in winter cropping along the Limphasa River Valley.
Total Malawi Managing Director, Seggie Kistasamy, said the support is in line with Total Malawi’s promise to support communities in areas where the company does business.
“We are implementing various community empowerment projects as our contribution towards alleviating some of the problems people in these communities face,” said Kistasamy.
Kistasamy further said it is the responsibility of every Malawian to protect the environment as one way of mitigating against the effects of climate change.
“If you look at what is happening in terms of the floods, with deforestation scaling up here in the north, it is one of the biggest challenges we have, so we have to preserve and protect the environment. Today we have presented solar lamps to the community to enable them have access to electricity. This is clean energy instead of burning charcoal,” he said.
